Living in a Land That Time Fogot tells the story of Anne Heffenan’s one-year volunteer experience in NW Haiti, in one of the poorest countries in the world. It focuses on daily life in this remote area, from visiting the market, crossing rivers and streams to get to work, learning a new language and dealing with mosquitoes. The ever-present cry for money as she went about her days and the lack of opportunities, clean water and enough food for sustenance are some of the things that remain with her long after returning home. However, the tenacity of the Haitian people she met, their resiliance and optimism are stronger memories for the author, along with their deeply held belief in their God, their love of singing and the smiling faces of the young children she met every day.
